Placing a copper or aluminium plate underneath avoids additional build-up of heat and heat damage. Use a low speed of maximum 4200 rpm and a low contact pressure to avoid this. Thin sheet metals will often react to even low levels of heat development and will warp. Finally, use a sinusoidal fleece cylinder to achieve a perfectly smooth end finish. You should work at a maximum of 900 rpm so that the sheet metal doesn’t get too hot. First grind with grit 60, then refine with grit 180. For a smooth satin finish, FEIN recommends using a polyurethane elastic grinding cylinder. Once the scratches are removed, use a grinding polisher to achieve a perfect satin grinding pattern in three steps. Next, mix the soap and water by swishing it with your hand or a utensil. To avoid metallised surfaces, it is important to use elastic sanding pads, as they “distort” the grinding pattern and achieve soft transitional areas. The first thing to try to repair scratches on a black refrigerator is to mix one tablespoon of dish liquid with a little warm water. Velcro discs like this are shaped like pyramids and achieve outstanding roughness depth values while delivering just as effective grinding results. The rotary grooves created are then ground using a special Pyramix sanding sheet (grit 280 / 400). Special cooling sanding discs ensure a low build-up of heat. In the first step, work selectively to remove even deep scratches using a lower-speed angle grinder and a sanding sheet with a velcro fastening (grit 80). Use these tips from stainless steel experts at FEIN to produce a perfect satin grinding pattern. These scratches must be removed before satin-finishing. In reality scratches can rarely be avoided on stainless steel surfaces, whether they are the result of transport, use or processing. Undertaking the right steps, in the right order, with tools matched perfectly to the application will effectively deliver the result you want in no time at all. There are also special machines and grinding tools for corners and edges. Are you dealing with light, minor scuffs or deeper, visiblescratches Depending on the condition your stainless steel is in, your approach will be different. Use a slow circular motion to rub the toothpaste into the item. Then rub the toothpaste on the scratched area of the silverware carefully. Surfaces require a different type of machining to pipes or profiles. Start by applying a small dab of toothpaste to the end of your finger. Visible surfaces are mainly satin-finished and containers are often polished to a mirror polish. The requirements made of stainless steel surfaces vary greatly depending on the area of application. Do you plan to write more?Įlsa: I’m waiting for some people to die before I can safely write my memoirs, darling. I see that you also have written a book, Urban Etiquette: Marvelous Manners for the Modern Metropolis. In other words, t ip your drag performers, LOL! And go out and support queer venues and artists! Or they’ll all disappear. Darling, even Ru Paul is out here fracking to make ends meet! So you know local drag artists are struggling! Look around: Queer nightlife venues are struggling! Queer performance venues are struggling! Things are expensive. I am a co-host and co-producer of a popular weekly bar show, the Monster Show, but there are occasional very slow nights when I’m going into my own pocket to pay our performers. But I still do occasional gigs where if I factor in the cost of my Lyft and supplies, I realize I spent more than I made, honey. Seriously, I think from the outside, maybe it may seem like drag performers make more than they actually do … because one element of some drag performance is making the cheap look fabulous - creating a diva fantasy with a borrowed wig, a dress from a thrift store, and $15 worth of costume jewelry. And, you know, like most other drag performers, I have a sick and unquenchable thirst for attention of any kind! No one should get into doing drag in the hopes that it will make them a lot of money! And that’s not why I do it. And those above-average gigs are available only on the weekends, and the competition for them is fierce - and even if you get the gig, that $300 includes tips, and those aren’t guaranteed. Plus you spent $30 on your Lyft to and from the club, and you have to use supplies that need to be purchased or that take time to make: wigs, costumes, makeup, hairspray, tights, and so on. You may also have to practice the number for at least a couple of hours, so say the gig took a minimum of six hours of your life. But that gig requires being at the club for two hours, and you spent at least two hours getting into drag. Let’s talk about it: $300 is a decent amount to take home from a nightclub gig: that’s booking fee plus tips … I’ll say $300 is an above-average night at the club for a local drag artist like me. And drag takes a lot of time - we get paid for performing, but when I factor in the two to three hours it takes me to get into drag, the hourly rate isn’t always great. The typical nightlife gigs are not lucrative or frequent enough, when you factor in the expense of doing drag. And I do really enjoy those gigs! But that’s only two months of the year. If every month were as booked for me as June and December are, I could keep the lights on solely with drag - I do a good business in corporate Pride parties in June and then holiday parties in December, as well as private parties. River Joy, Robby Kendall and Elsa at the trailer viewing party of Robbie’s newest film Sweet Nothing which Elsa also acted in.ĭo you have a day job or are you able to do this full-time?Įlsa: I t’s very difficult to make a full-time living from drag! I wish I could. Where the feminine, faggy parts of my spirit are celebrated. And I spent the next 15 years of my adult life dealing with and discarding all that bullshit and baggage that society had put on me, and dealing with the misogyny and femme-phobia of the gay community as well, before I even got to drag. And I’d heard this all my life I’d always been the “class sissy.” So then I heard it from a director in San Francisco, of all places… at a time when I hadn’t worked through my own self-hatred, my own internal homophobia - the poison that so many queer people absorb from their environments. (Which may have been a lot of the appeal, for me, actually.) And, side note, meanwhile I was going off and doing LSD in the woods with my friends every weekend, so I doubt that those little plays had much effect on anyone.īut then as a young man, I was discouraged from pursuing acting this was the 1990s, and I had someone tell me that, in short, I was just too gay to be believable on stage as, like, a human man. There may have been green tights involved. I cringe to imagine: We were called the Harlequins. I was part of a high school “improv” group that went around to elementary schools and did - excruciating I am sure - little plays about, like, the joys of saying no to drugs. I wanted to be an actor when I was young. What is your background in acting?Įlsa: Well, thank you. Elsa Touche gazes out the window at The Lookout.īAS: Your shows are really funny and I love that Elsa has the ability to create humor out of any situation. On tracks such as Khalid’s Better and Lany’s I f You See Her, the bass impact of the B6.2 somehow did not stir me in quite the same way as the B6. While the bass on the B6.2 opened up considerably and became fuller in body, to my ears, it remained unmatched to its predecessor. I found it easy to appreciate Wonder’s vocals and deftness on the harmonica via the B6.2, which was just involving as it accompanied Sandoval’s arrangements. There’s wonderful body to the whole arrangement, with percussions having texture and layered nicely together. I could feel the sense of ease and lightness of touch in Arturo Sandoval’s trumpet on the track People, which also features Stevie Wonder on vocals and harmonica. These speakers really get to the heart of the music. The B6.2 definitely requires considerable run-in time to sound its best and one will be rewarded for doing do. I gave the speakers more time to run in over the next couple of weeks before doing some serious listening.Īnd thankfully, the speakers bloomed – in bass and across the board, but only after hitting the 150-hour mark. I wasn’t expecting the B6.2’s bass performance to be altered considerably from the B6 as that was one of the older model’s strengths. Vocals sounded more pronounced and there was just so much more clarity in the upper range, whether it was music or movie playback.īut what caught my attention was the bass – and the lack of it. During my initial listening session, there was an immediate noticeable difference in the midrange and high frequencies compared with the resident Debut B6. The review pair had about 20 hours clocked in. For serious listening, I used lossless (FLAC) tracks played back via foobar2000 with the Mojo functioning as the DAC. The primary daily driver was Spotify Premium (16-bit/48kHz) fed via optical cable into the Chord Mojo, which then feeds into the Rega Elex over a 3.5mm to RCA cable. The review units were placed on 24-inch stands about two meters apart with the TV in between, slightly toed in at about 20 degrees towards the listening position and about two feet from the back wall. Overall build quality, fit and finish are very good. To me, it would not hurt to have a few colour options on the cards as I feel black can be a tad bland. It is equipped with a pair of speaker terminals and comes in one finish only – black ash vinyl. Maximum power handling is 120 watts while frequency response comes in at 44-35,000Hz. The B6.2’s sensitivity is rated at 87dB and nominal impedance is six ohms. This makes placement against walls or bookshelves much easier. The thick MDF cabinet enclosures are now slightly larger at 375 x 195 x 268mm (h/w/d), and internally braced for greater stiffness and strength.Īnother change is the relocation of the dual flared bass port, which is now in front. The B6.2 also uses a new 6.5-inch woven Aramid-fibre woofer with a revised cone shape that is said to offer greater stiffness and damping, resulting in a smoother, extended low-frequency response. ELAC says the waveguide improves directivity control and eliminates the diffraction modes inherent in traditional box enclosures. The B6.2 features a new one-inch silk-dome tweeter with a wide dispersion waveguide that can produce a response of up to 35,000Hz, much higher than the 20,000Hz on the first-generation model. Having recently reviewed the Dali Oberon 3, it only seemed logical to get my hands on the B6.2 and hear how it pits against the competition.ĮLAC says everything about the Debut 2.0 series has been improved, including completely redesigned custom drivers that deliver greater accuracy, and stronger cabinets for higher resolution and freedom from resonances. There are seven models in the Debut 2.0 lineup and the B6.2 sits just below the ELAC F5.2 floorstander. IT was back in August 2016 that ELAC’s first-generation Debut B6 made its “debut” here in in 2018, the company revised the range with the Debut 2.0 series. – Bass not as extended compared with Debut B6 comes in only one colour. + An honest, musical all-round standmount speaker re-designed drivers deliver highly improved mid-range and high frequencies easy to drive and place. For example: there is a red puck in 3, a red in 1, a blue in 1, but not as close to the end as the red, and two red pucks in 1 but further away from the end of the table than the blue puck. When all weights have been shuffled, the player with the puck closest to the far edge of the table takes points for all pucks that are ahead of their opponent's furthest shot. No points are tabulated until the end of the round. Pucks that fall off or are bumped off the table into the gutter are removed from play for the round. Weights that haven't passed the foul line closest to the player are removed for the round. If a puck hangs off the end corner, it receives no additional scoring points other than being a 4 for hanging over the back edge of the board. A weight that's hanging partially over the edge at the end of the table in the 3-point area, called a "hanger" (or sometimes a "shipper"), usually receives an extra point (count as 4). A weight has to completely cross the zone line to count as a full score (if a weight is partially in zone 2 and 3 the weight's score is 2). Points are scored by getting a weight to stop in one of the numbered scoring areas. Players take turns sliding, or "shuffling," the weights to the opposite end of the board, trying to score points, bump opposing pucks off the board, or protect their own pucks from bump-offs. Game play Scoring Table shuffleboard scoring The table is surrounded by a gutter, or "alley" pucks that accidentally fall, or are knocked, into a gutter are out of play for the rest of the round. The line that separates the center third of the table and the beginning of the "1 point" section is called the "foul line" (a weight which does not pass the foul line closest to the player is removed from the table for the round). The center third of the table is unmarked. The foul line measures 6 feet from the end of the table. The next section is adjacent to this section, of equal length (6 inches), and is labeled with a "2." The final section, "1", is adjacent to section "2." This section continues all the way to the foul line. The outer scoring section, at the end of the table, is labeled with the number "3" in the middle (for "3 points"). The scoring sections extend from the very edge of either end of the table towards the middle of the table, covering approximately one-third of the length of the table. Faster speed waxes have more silicone and less cornmeal.Įach end of the table is divided into three scoring sections by straight lines across the width of the table. The longer the table, the greater speed of wax that is needed. Powdered wax is made of silicone, cornmeal and sometimes compressed walnut shells. There are many different speeds of wax to choose from to match the player's skill level. These beads act like ball bearings, letting a puck slide down the table a great distance with only a slight push. In order to decrease friction, the table is periodically sprinkled liberally with tiny, salt-like beads of silicone (often referred to as shuffleboard wax even though silicone is not a wax, or sometimes as shuffleboard sand, or shuffleboard cheese, due to its visual similarity to grated cheese). Tables are intended to be kept flat, but any given table may have its own slight concave or convex condition, adding an extra challenge. Shuffleboard tables vary in length, usually within a 9–22-foot range (2.7–6.7 m), and are at least 20 inches (510 mm) wide. Shooting is performed with the hand directly, as opposed to deck shuffleboard's use of cue sticks. Table shuffleboard (also known as American shuffleboard, indoor shuffleboard, slingers, shufflepuck, and quoits, sandy table) is a game in which players push metal-and-plastic weighted pucks (also called weights or quoits) down a long and smooth wooden table into a scoring area at the opposite end of the table.
